Our community, my story

IMG_40 I was born and brought up in Northern Ireland during the Troubles. My Dad had come over from India in 1958 and started his own business from scratch, selling clothes door to door, then running a market stall. To find out more go to my story.

I have lived in this area since 1999, and got involved in our community from the moment I moved here. I am currently chair of Governors at Haverstock School and am on the board of Queens Crescent Community Association. I have been a member of the Labour party for 20 years, and was proud to be the first ever ethnic minority Leader of Camden Council. To find out more go to my part in our community.

IMG_3My politics are central to my work as a radical nationally recognised campaigning lawyer. My upbringing in Northern Ireland in the 1980s taught me a lot about difference, diversity, solidarity and fundamental rights. Fighting to protect those rights has always been at the core of my professional career. To find out more go to national leadership.
